IGCSE

English Language and English Literature

IGCSE (English Language and English Literature)

The IGCSE for English Language and English Literature is divided into two separate IGCSE courses that require students to master different skills. English Language focuses on creative writing, textual analysis, linguistic study and reading comprehension. English Literature necessitates the study of works from around the world and requires students to be able to analyze literature, understand various literary devices, recognize the various themes, motif and symbols within a work, and appreciate the time context of the material they are given to study. All learners will be required to study one play and one novel for the English Literature course, and the English Language course necessitates the intensive study of the Edexcel IGCSE English Language Anthology. Both courses also assess a student’s ability to understand the intricacies of the English language, express themselves eloquently under test conditions and explore poetry. Students are encouraged to sit two exams for each course, rather than fulfilling a coursework component.
